Digg Returns: New Features, Communities, and AI Podcast

2 minutes read

Digg, once the go-to site for discovering trending stories before Reddit took over, has relaunched with a modern look and new features. Founded by Kevin Rose and joined by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, the new Digg combines familiar community-driven content with a cleaner, streamlined interface. Notably, Digg now offers user-made communities similar to subreddits, allowing users to curate their feeds and participate in discussions, with 21 default communities available at launch.

One standout feature is Digg Daily, a daily AI-generated podcast summarizing the site’s top posts in about five minutes. The podcast uses AI hosts to recap stories and highlight reader comments, though it currently lacks direct links to discussed posts. The Digg team is considering replacing AI hosts with humans for a more natural experience based on user feedback.

Digg’s relaunch focuses on authenticity and user trust, with potential plans to require proof of ownership for product-based communities and explore anti-spam measures without intrusive verifications. While the new platform is still growing—especially in niche communities—it offers a less cluttered experience than Reddit, with straightforward avatar uploads and no paywalls for customization. Users can join the beta now via the website or app and start shaping the next era of Digg.
