How Netflix’s Real-Time Voting Changes Live Competition Shows
2 minutes read
Netflix is introducing real-time voting for its live competition shows, starting with the revival of Star Search. This feature lets subscribers cast votes for their favorite contestants during live broadcasts, directly from their smart TV, streaming device (like Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku), or the Netflix mobile app. However, voting is not available when watching via a web browser, nor can you vote if you pause, rewind, or join the show late.
During live events, viewers will see a prompt with a 1–5 star rating system appear on their screen, enabling them to rate each performer. Importantly, each Netflix profile can only vote once per performance. This interactive element is designed to engage audiences in real time and influence competition outcomes, making the viewing experience more participatory. While Star Search is currently the only show using this feature, Netflix plans to expand real-time voting to more live events in the future.
This update matters because it gives viewers a new level of involvement in live shows, allowing them to have a direct say in the results and enhancing the sense of community around Netflix’s live content.
