TikTok Launches Local Feed Feature for US Users

2 minutes read

TikTok has introduced its first US-exclusive feature: a ‘Local’ feed designed to showcase content from users’ immediate geographic area. This new feed, currently available in select cities, leverages your device’s GPS data to curate videos that are relevant to your local community.

When enabled, the Local feed appears as a separate tab alongside the familiar ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ feeds. TikTok says the goal is to help users discover neighborhood events, businesses, and trends, while also boosting the visibility of local creators. For example, a user in Los Angeles might see videos about nearby food trucks or upcoming concerts.

  • This feature matters because it encourages community engagement and can help small businesses reach local audiences more effectively through short-form video content.

However, users should be aware that the feature requires access to their location data, raising privacy considerations. TikTok assures users that location sharing is optional and can be controlled in the app’s privacy settings.
